So how often as a trainer do you hear that you have an easy job, that you have no pressure and all you really do is like the sound of your own voice. OK it might not be quite as harsh as that but I'm sure if you have ever worked or work in the training arena you know where i'm coming from.
I've heard it said that 'Trainer's are their own individual breed', its true we are. We certainly are not the wall flower type and yes, anyone can be a trainer but no, not everyone can be an effective trainer.
I would love to be able to write about a typical day in the life of a trainer but to be honest, they are so varied it is not really possible to just pick one as an average. What a lot of people do not understand is the work, effort and dedication that goes into creating 'the training experience'. For a lot of trainers the subjects that we get given are by no means the most exciting, so it is up to us to make them that way. For most trainers our day starts way before anyone gets even close to the training room and our day will continue way past the time that everyone of our delegates have gone home. "That's your choice" I hear you say, and yes it is and as 'a particular breed' we wouldn't do what we did if we didn't have a passion for it. A good trainer will be passionate about imparting knowledge regardless of what it is, they will also have made sure that they know their subject material inside out and everything that makes it up.
So yes we do love what we do, who else would put themselves in a position to be potentially slaughtered in front of a group of people just for fun. Only a Trainer! but the one thing you can rely on, is that as much as we love what we do, it wouldn't be worth it if it wasn't for the spectacular characters that we get to meet when we do it.
I have found that sharing these experiences, the things that I learnt along the way from my very first training experience to my best and worst give me even more of a passion for what I do and for all the bad the good definitely has made the journey worth the ride.
